It’s been a few weeks since Microsoft officially presented Windows 10 S, the new version of Windows 10 that has the peculiarity that it only allows the installation of applications that are available in the official store of applications of the operating system and that is mainly intended for the world of education.
At the moment this new operating system is only available with new Microsoft laptops, known as Surface Laptops, today we are going to explain you step by step how to install Windows 10 S so you can try all its features, and even make the most of it.
Download an official ISO
The first option to try the new Windows 10 S is to be a developer and have an MSDN subscription With which you can download official images from the DVD of the new version of Windows 10.
The last official ISOs date from July 2017 and will allow us to test the new Windows 10 S on our computer or virtual machine. This option is designed for developers, which is difficult, but it becomes very complicated when you also have to have an MSDN subscription.
How to install Windows 10 S inside your Windows 10 installation
We do not know if, due to the great success of Windows 10 S or a simple decision of a Microsoft executive, the Redmond-based company has made available to all users a simple installer of the new operating system, it can download easily from its official website. You can use it in any version of Windows 10 that is available (Windows 10 Pro, Windows 10 Pro Education, Windows 10 Education, Windows 10 Enterprise) except Windows 10 Home.
First, to be able to install Windows 10 S, we must check that our computer is updated and has the Windows 10 Creators Update installed. If not, you should do it before taking the next step. Remember that this update maintains all personal files, all installed applications and that only the settings will be restored.
Once you download the installer, we will see a screen like the one shown below. Then you just have to run it and follow the instructions.
Your hardware and the available disk space will be checked first before the new operating system begins to download automatically. Depending on your computer and especially your Internet access speed, this process can take a few minutes or a long time. Our recommendation, in any case, is that you have patience.
So you have it in mind. We must tell you that while Windows 10 S is downloaded, you can cancel the process at any time. Still, once it is finished, the installation of the new operating system will be inevitable and unstoppable. At the end of the process, the system will restart automatically, and you will already have the new version of Windows 10 installed on your computer.
